Special Silicone Rubber-RTV Silicone Rubber

RTV silicone rubber is a silicone rubber that cures at room temperature. It can be obtained as a one-ingredient product or from a mixture of two ingredients (base and cure). Manufacturers offer hardness ranges from very soft to medium (typically 15 to 40 Shore). RTV silicone can be cured with a catalyst consisting of platinum or tin compounds, such as dibutyltin dilaurate. Applications include low-temperature cladding moulding, fabrication of moulds for reproduction and lens applications with certain optical transparency levels.

Application of RTV silicone rubber

To produce the material, users mix silicone rubber with a curing agent or curing agent. Usually, the mix ratio is a few percent. In order for RTV silicone to reproduce the surface texture, the original material must be cleaned. Vacuum degassing removes enfranchised bubbles from the mixed silicone and catalyst to ensure optimum tensile strength, which affects regeneration time. In casting and mould manufacturing, RTV silicone rubber reproduces fine details for a variety of industrial and art-related applications, including prototyping, furniture, sculpture and architectural elements.

RTV silicone rubber can be used for casting wax, gypsum, low melting point alloys/metals and polyurethanes, epoxies or polyester resins (no release agents are used). A recent innovation is the ability to 3D print RTV silicone. Industrial applications of RTV silicone include aerospace, consumer electronics and microelectronics. Some applications of aerospace products are cockpit instruments, engine electronics pot-seals and engine gaskets. RTV silicone is used for its ability to withstand mechanical and thermal stresses.
